Led by Bush Heritage Australia, this project develops a consistent way to measure the condition of the river’s banks and track how they change as recovery work takes effect. It reviews the methods available for monitoring riparian vegetation and brings them together into a single framework for the upper Murrumbidgee, with local knowledge and community perspectives built in through workshops.
Baseline surveys record the condition of riverbank vegetation and erosion risks reach by reach, and a standard assessment tool is used to report on individual recovery sites and what the works achieve. The framework sets the indicators and reference conditions against which the river’s recovery can be measured over time.
