Delivered by the ACT Parks and Conservation Service, this project builds resilience along the Murrumbidgee River corridor from Point Hut Crossing downstream to the northern border of the ACT. It targets two woody weeds, box elder and black willow, that can take over riverbank vegetation entirely. Earlier control work has been done in sections as funding allowed; the program will fund two complete passes of the river within the ACT, so seedlings missed the first time can be treated and the weeds removed for good. Canopy trees are also being planted to shade out blackberry, cool the water and drop leaves and branches into the river as habitat for fish and water bugs. Small-scale gully erosion controls are being implemented, and bank erosion is being stabilised, where needed to support planting.
